MIRNEWS.110 10 OCTOBER 1991 AUSTROMIR: In the week from 3 to 10 Oct. 1991 the MIR station was used as an international laboratory by 2 foreign guest cosmonauts, an Austrian and a Kazakh. The Austrian project consisted of 15 experiments, handled by Franz Viebock. The Kazakh cosmonaut Taktar Albakirov also had to do some experiments placed at his disposal by scientists in Kazakhstan. As much as possible the results of the Austrian project were sent to earth via the Telemetry facilities of the MIR station. So while the flight was still going on Austrian scientists in TsUP were able to see the results. One of the 15 experiments consisted of a computersystem and software 'Datamir' which converted the data of the experiments in files, which could be loaded in the MIR's computersystem Strela for Telemetric relay. Sometimes the TLM channels of MIR were overloaded nd once Artsebarskiy had to postpone his medical check for the cable for TLM was in Austrian hands. The dense radioconversations also caused congestions on the VHF-radiolink. Very interesting to hear conversations in Russian and Austrian about different subjects at the same time. Very diligent were Viebock, Krikalyov and Artsebarskiy. Volkov, the new captain, and Albakirov seemed to be less active. RETURN AND SAFE LANDING OF SOYUZ-TM12: The S-TM12 landed at 62 KM east of Arkalyk in Kazakhstan (6 KM away from the planned landing site) on 10 Oct. 1991 at 0412UTC. The landing took place after a long night for both crews. Just before closing the hatches between MIR and S-TM12 at 1803UTC on 9 Oct. 1991 the crews said good-bye. Volkov and Krikalyov (c/s Donbasy) will remain on board MIR until March 1992. Artsebarskiy, Viebock and Albakirov returned to earth. The returned cosmonauts immediately flew to Star city near Moscow to be able to give a press-conference there on 11 Oct. 1991. RADIO AMATEUR ACTIVITIES: 1. In the radio amateur project, named Aremir, Viebocks transmissions could be heard on 145.975 mc. During passes over here there has been Packetradio and a CW beacon with the text: 'de spacestation MIR Aremir OE4SV and RSF 73-s'. 2. We can expect a continuation of the activities on 145.550 mc. Already on 10 Oct. 1991 Packetradio could be heard there. TRANSFER OF SOYUZ-TM13: This operation will take place in the night from 14 to 15 Oct. 1991. During thatimutonomous flight of appr. 20 minutes Volkov will fly from the forward to the aft docking port of the station. Communications during that operation on 121.750eand (possibly) simultanuously on 143.625 mc. Chris v.d. Berg, NL-9165/A-UK3202.
