MIRNEWS.113 14 NOVEMBER 1991 From 22 Oct. 1991 until 2 Nov. 1991 most passes of MIR occured during the night hours. After the docking of the freighter Progress-M10 to MIR on 21 Oct. 1991 no important operations took place. So that caused an interruption in the flow of information. Gradually the number of passes during the early evening hours increases. Radiotraffic about routine matters: repairs and maintenance of MIR's on board systems, espacially those which serve 'life-support', and about the production of semi-conducting materials in the ovens of Module-D and T. PLANS WITH MIR FOR NEAR FUTURE: Uncertainties still prevail: with repairs and maintenance the crew secures the operational status of the complex, but regularly important operations are put back. The 2 space-walks (EVA-s), which had been planned for the previous expedition (so before Oct. 1991) are now scheduled for the second half of January 1992. Authorities do not hesitate to promise us ambituous operations, for instance recently the schedule to keep the MIR complex operational until 2000. In a few years they will replace the base block by MIR-2 and during the whole decade Buran will shuttle to MIR for the deliveries and retrievals of all kinds of Modules. Sad to say that only those working on these projects seem to believe in the feasability of them. Undoubtedly MIR will remain operational to realize the flights of a German and a French guest cosmonaut. RADIO-AMATEURISM: In turn Volkov (U4MIR) and Krikalyov (U5MIR) use the transceiver for the 2 M (almost always on 145.550 mc/s) and Volkov meanwhile is as enthousiastic as his colleagues Krikalyov and (until May 1991) Manarov (U2MIR).
