MIRNEWS.138 9 JULY 1992 EXTRAVEHICULAR ACTIVITY MIR-CREW: This relatively short and simple EVA has been exectued as planned: on 8 July 1992 between 1245 and 1450UTC. The EVA was a success and no further EVA's for this repair will be necessary. The cosmonauts had to mend a valve on the outersurface of Kvant-2 (Module-D). This valve makes vacuumization of one of the gyrodyne-cases possible. The pair of gyro's in that case have to be replaced and this work still has to be done. Back inside Kvant-2 the crew checked the functioning of the valve: it worked perfectly. During the EVA the MIR station was still out of our range. When MIR again was in range the crew took care of spacesuits, equipment, tools, etc. and reported about their EVA. During the EVA the crew lost some tools and so there are a few satellites more in space. From a window in the transition section they saw the objects wandering around. During the EVA traffic and TV images were relayed via the Geostationary Altair satellite on 16 degr. W. My colleague Peter was able to record a lot of that traffic and this still has to be analysed. If this traffic contains interesting facts I will draft an additional report about this EVA. Chris van den Berg, NL-9165/A-UK3202.
